We are a very informal and easy-going club. Our purpose is community service, and we are all unpaid volunteers in that service. We have a diverse membership in terms of professions, ages, and commitments outside the club. We will expect you to support and assist the efforts of the club to the best of your ability, including, but not limited to:
How do I join? As with all Lions Clubs, membership in the Livingston Lions Club is by invitation only. You will be invited to attend a Wednesday membership meeting, and be our guest for lunch. To get invited, talk to any member of the club. If you don't know anyone, call our Membership Chairman at 936-327-8999. We meet at 12:00 noon each Wednesday at the Camp Cho-Yeh Conference Center, on S. Washington Ave., Livingston. Most of us arrive around 11:30 a.m. for a buffet luncheon. At this meeting you get to form a first impression of us by meeting our members, seeing us do business, etc. A current member of the Livingston Lions Club must invite you to be a member. This person will become your sponsor. Being a sponsor is an important responsibility and should not be taken lightly. It will be your sponsor's responsibility to guide you through the process of joining the club and, more importantly, becoming a Lion. Your sponsor will also continue to be your first contact within the club for help and support. Your sponsor will ask you
to fill out a membership application with the usual name, address, etc.
information. This information will be retained by the club, and also
forwarded to Texas Lions District 2S-1 and the International Association
of Lions Clubs (joining the Livingston Lions automatically makes you
a member of both these groups, too!). At the next meeting of the Livingston
Lions Board of Directors, your application will be considered for approval.
If approved, you will be sworn in at the next regular membership meeting. You will receive an invoice from the treasurer around the first of each month for $30.00. These dues include your membership in the Livingston Lions, Texas Lions, Lions International and your meals at membership meetings on Wednesdays. Dues are not tax-deductible as a charitable contribution. You will also be asked to pay a one-time initiation fee of $25, most of which goes to Lions International, but it also buys you a membership badge to wear to meetings. |
